Erik Bazinyan grew up in Yerevan, Armenia. He loved to fight in the streets of the city, which eventually led him to boxing.

His grandfather knew well the Olympic champion and former boxer Vladimir Yengibaryan, owner of a boxing club in the city. Erik finally met this Armenian legend, who accepted to teach him the noble art of boxing.

After losing his first ever bout, Bazinyan won his following 109 fights in the amateur ranks.

Since arriving in Quebec in 2011, at 16 years old, he won every fight and tournament he took part.

After winning the Quebec Golden Gloves, the Imperium Cup and the Canadian Golden Gloves in 2013, Bazinyan decided to turn pro under the supervision of Howard and Otis Grant.

His first pro bout, September 2013 in Halifax, only lasted 33 seconds.
After two other wins by stoppage against local fighters, Bazinyan stepped in the ring at the prestigious Bell Center for the first time, May 24, 2014, where he won a unanimous decision over Mexicain Jaudiel Zepeda.

His most beautiful win was against German power puncher LeeAnthony Spitzka, August 15, 2015, at the Bell Center, on the undercard of the return bout of Lucian Bute.

This spectacular performance and KO impressed a lot of people, including the management of Groupe Yvon Michel (GYM), who offered a contract to the young pugilist.

In his most recent outing, January 21 at the Montreal Casino, the boxer nicknamed ‘‘BZO’’ beat tough as nail Polish youth champion Michal Ludwiczak by unanimous decision.

A real talent who can box either from a southpaw or an orthodox stance, Bazinyan also served as a sparring partner for Lucian Bute for Bute’s world title bout against James DeGale.

Since then, he knocked out undefeated Hungarian Gergo Horvath, March 12, at La Tohu, before stopping Hungarian veteran brawler Zoltan Sera, June 17, also at La Tohu.
