Colombian-born heavyweight Oscar "Kaboom" Rivas is a young prospect fighting in the king’s division of boxing.

He first caught the attention of Groupe Yvon Michel (GYM) at the Beijing Olympics, where he upset Bulgarian Kubrat Pulev, who eventually became an opponent of world heavyweight champion Wladimir Klitschko.

After an escapade that only a script from a James Bond movie could match, Rivas and his compatriot, Eleider Alvarez, secretly took the road to Montreal by plane to sign a professional contract with GYM.

Just as his accomplice, the friendly giant learned the language of Molière, while deepening his learning of the noble art of boxing with trainer Marc Ramsay.

In the pro ranks, "Kaboom" defeated current Canadian cruiserweight champion Sylvera Louis, Barbados Olympian Shawn Cox, and tough Mexican Daniel Cota.

In his first career main event, at the Vintage Theatre of the Casino de Montreal, Rivas proved that he had the makings of a star, knocking out brawler Eric Barrak.

After he easily disposed of the Turkish giant Oezcan Cetinkaya in less than a single round, fighting on the undercard of the world title fight between Adonis Stevenson and Sakio Bika in Quebec, Rivas pulverized American Jason Pettaway in the opening round on a Premier Boxing Champions series show in Shelton, Washington.

In his last outing, November 28 at the Vidéotron Centre, Rivas made quick work of tough American Joey Abell, knocking him out in impressive fashion, live on Showtime.

Despite an eye surgery and an administrative problem causing him his fight against Gerald Washington, ‘‘Kaboom’’ did not discourage. June 4th at the Bell Centre, he knocked out American veteran Jeremy Bates in the opening round, before tarnishing the perfect record of American southpaw Jeremiah Karpency, July 29 at the Vidéotron Centre.

Still undefeated, the athletic and muscular boxer continues his climb to the highest peaks of professional boxing. Very soon, "Kaboom" will arrive in the world heavyweight rankings with a bang.
