YVON MICHEL

President


A native of Arthabaska, Yvon Michel graduated in physical education from the Université du Québec à Trois-Rivières in 1978, where he earned a Master in boxing training.

In 1985, he was appointed by the Canadian Amateur Boxing Association as the head coach of the National Centre in Montreal. Technical Director of the Quebec Federation of Olympic boxing (FQBO) in 1980, he added the high performance program in 1983.

He was also the head coach of Canada's national boxing team from 1992 to 1998, including at the Atlanta Olympics in 1996. He led Canada to its best results at the Pan American Games in Mal Del Plata, Argentina in 1995 and at the Commonwealth Games in Victoria in 1994. Under his leadership, the Canadian national team achieved a record of victories and medals on the international stage.

M. Michel was a commentator and analyst live on Radio Canada for boxing events including the Los Angeles Olympics in 1984 and the Seoul Games in 1988. He also held the same position for the TVA channel during the presentation of the Barcelona Olympic Games in 1992. He is also an analyst at the boxing shows on the RDS channel since its founding in 1989, with Jean-Paul Chartrand.

In addition to his job as a boxing analyst for RDS, Yvon Michel was the CEO of InterBox for 6 years, from 1997 to 2004. During this period, InterBox has created two world champions.

With friends, he subsequently founded his own company, Groupe Yvon Michel (GYM), in summer 2004, where he is the CEO. Since then, GYM is the most prolific organization in the country in terms of presentation of boxing events.

M. Michel was also a consultant to the dramatic series "The 7th round", which was broadcast on Radio Canada in fall 2006.

His vast coaching experience, management skills and his communication skills have greatly contributed to the emergence of boxing in Quebec, the success of its participants, as well as the significant increase in the credibility of the sport here.
